Russia, China, Argentina, Chile, Egypt, India, Israel, Lebanon, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and Venezuela- this is a top 12 list of countries being put on a ‘priority watch list’ for not doing enough to tackle copyright piracy, according to the office of the US Trade Representative. The Motion Picture Association of America estimates that it lost about $2.3 billion in revenue in China in 2005, saying that only 10% of the DVD’s sold were legal. The US Government has reported China to the World Trade Organization for unfair trade practices. The US games industry estimates that global piracy cost it more than $4 billion in 2004 not including losses from net piracy. The EU has also asked to participate in the WTO talks over issues of copyright and trademark policy in China.
