Prince Paul

Critically acclaimed DJ and producer Prince Paul has been jamming with Rock ‘N’ Roll Hall of Famer Bernie Worroll. As keyboard player for Parliament-Funkadelic, Worrell is recognized as a strong influence on west coast hip hop - most notably by Dr Dre’s heavy sampling of his work for The Chronic. Worrell was showing his documentary, Stranger: Bernie Worrell on Earth, When he met Paul. Prince Paul is known most for producing many of the best Gravediggaz and De La Soul tracks recorded.

Baby Elephant, as the new group will be called, will combine the sampling skills and west coast flavor of Paul with Worrells clearly established funk background. “I don’t want people to think it’s like some hip hop beats over him playing. We’re trying to invent something,” Paul says when speaking of the album.

I read a criticism of this new group in which it was compared to Gnarl’s Barkley in a negative way - but I didn’t understand it. If by ‘Gnarles Barkley clone’ they meant a collaboration between two genius artists to create a completely different sound. Look for Turn my Teeth Up by Baby Elephant to drop on September 15th.

Prince Paul is from the east coast, Long Island, NY. All production has been based on the east coast in Paul’s Coffee Shop studio.

Truth, is there something here that disputes that? It’s mentioned that Worrell influenced West Coast production, but nothing about Prince Paul not being from NY.
