Congratulations to Opie and Anthony for being the first radio talk show hosts to be suspended from XM radio. Even though the FCC does not regulate satellite radio, XM suspended the duo for 30 days in light of what they called questionable content. According to the Hollywood Reporter, a character by the name of Homeless Charlie had a segment on Opie and Anthony where he fantasized about “violent sex” with Laura Bush, Condoleezza Rice, and Queen Elizabeth II.The firing is ironic considering that Opie and Anthony still have a radio show (that has been toned down), broadcasted by CBS and is heavily regulated by the FCC. Critics of the firing suspect that XM may have suspended them only to appease lawmakers whom are expected to decide if a merger between Sirius and XM will violate anti-trust laws. If this is true, it brings up more questions about censorship that concerns all artists. Representatives from the homeless community have yet to comment on the negative portrayal.
