Mookie Jones

August 31, 2007 - Mookie Jones, an up and coming Houston rapper and son of pioneering Hip Hop/R&B Singer Oran ‘Juice’ Jones, was recently announced as the winner of Scion’s ‘The Prospect’ competition. As the winner, the 18-year-old Jones will recieve a fully funded marketing campaign to help launch his rap career.

As part of the competition, a group of 10 finalists were each given a track produced and judged by Hi-Tek and were told to provide both a concept and lyrics to the track. The judges were Hi-tek, Lenny S (VP of A&R Def Jam/Roc A Fella) and Ryan Ford (Exec. Editor, The Source). “Scion creates competitions like ‘The Prospect’ to provide up and coming artist’s career building experiences. We hope that the creation of a track with Hi-Tek and the making of a music video will provide some new opportunities for this promising young talent” said Jeri Yoshizu, Scion’s sales promotion manager.

Mookie entered his first rap battle at the age of 15 and has won first place in both the Roc Tha Mic Competition and the Source Battle. Jones’ ‘The Prospect’ prize package consists of $75,000 marketing deal that will include a song provided by Hi-Tek, a video shoot produced by Scion and several other prizes.
