Kurtis Blow is a pioneer of rap. He was one of the first rap artists ever signed to a major record label, and his classics include “If I Ruled The World” and “Basketball”. Kurtis is now part of a new hip hop crew called The Trinity along with Chris Flow and Ricky B. The Trinity is at the forefront of an ever growing sub-genre in rap: holy hip hop. Their website, www.trinityhiphop.com, sums it up well:Mission: “Changing Today’s Youth One Rhyme at a Time.”
Goal: “Taking Back the Streets with a Positive Message.”
Purpose: “Winning Souls for Christ.”

They kicked off the “Just Do It” tour a month ago to pump their first full length album of the same name. On the website, there is a testimonial from Katina, who saw them in an Atlanta, GA club. She says “Kurtis and the group started rapping his old school songs…then the group broke out with the song, ‘Crunk Wit It’… talking about being crunk for Christ. All the booty shaking, breast showing and reefer smoking stopped.” Their released album features a message that denounces gang life and violence as well. Kurtis Blow, who is a preacher, is also known for giving short sermons during some of his concerts. Regardless of your personal beliefs, you should be able to respect and appreciate this new part of hip hop. If this is not an inspiring message for you, it shows you at least that hip hop has a place almost anywhere.
