KRS One completed an interview with MP3.com during which the hip hop legend took shots at Jeff Chang, the author of Cant Stop Wont Stop: A History of the Hip-Hop Generation. Among several shots KRS took at Chang, the most notable is on Can’t Stop Won’t Stop’s reputation as the pinnacle of hip hop literature, “I have issue with that. Not only do I have cultural issues with that, meaning, who gave you the authority to even write such a book?” The comments have drawn criticism as the statement can infer that Chang is not an authority on the history of hip hop because he isn’t black. It’s a stretch because KRS uses the word ‘cultural’, but maybe its somewhere between the lines? Anyway Jeff Chang responded on his blog by first mentioning that we was not the authority by any means. “That’s why I’ve always been insistent on being humble about my own contribution to hip-hop scholarship.” He considered the notion that his book was an authority on hip hop a burden.
