The Philadelphia Inquirer reports that the idea for 2002’s State Property film - which features both Jay-Z and Damon Dash - belong to South Philly author Antonne Jones.Jones claims that the plot for the movie was taken from his book The Family: A Philadelphia Mob Story. He says that the two hip hop entrepreneurs met with him in 1998 to discuss a deal for the rights of the story. Jones supposedly offered Jay and Dash the rights for the story for $500,000, but was only offered $50,000.
The author rejected the lower offer and reports that the he never spoke to Hov or Dame again - although State Property, and the sequel, State Property 2, were still released, with the first one grossing $2.1 million.
