August 10, 2007 - Late in July, Ja Rule, born Jeffrey Atkins, was pulled over for speeding. He was charged with criminal weapons possessions when a semi-automatic hand gun was found in his vehicle and later freed on $150,000 bail. In an attempt to get his legal stats up, recently he has found his way back into court for failing to pay a local contractor (not pictured above) $8,000. The contractor, Tobia, told the New Jersey Herald that Ja Rule did not pay him after fixing a bad leak at the rappers $3.5 million Saddle River Mansion. “We put in 150 hours of manpower, which I gave him for $13,000,” said Tobia, who added that he and six other men completed the job in three days. “He paid me $5,000 and wouldn’t pay me the rest. I don’t know why.” Ja Rule’s lawyer, Brian Neary argued that the actual amount owed was $4,000 and that there was a dispute to whether the work was done properly and whether the money is owed. A criminal complaint has been filed which alleges that Ja’s failure to pay Tobia amounted to theft of services. A hearing has been scheduled for next week.
