Bernard McGuirk, the man who first used the term “hoes” while discussing the NCAAchampionship game between Rutgers and Tennessee was let go a week after Don Imus’ initial firing. Bernard joined the Imus in the Morning Show as producer in 1987. He was one of Imus’ frequent on-air foils and provided much of the ‘dicier’ content alongside over the top impersonations of late Cardinal John O’Connor and the Mayor of New Orleans Ray Nagin. When discussing the NCAA women’s championship game Imus described the Rutgers team as tattooed “rough girls”. “Some hardcore hoes,” replied McGuirk. This 10-second exchange has ignited a great national debate over racist and misogynistic language and lyrics (from the hip hop world).
