According to Dave Mays, the co-founder and CEO of Hip Hop Weekly, “the impact of the hip-hop culture on Hollywood is undeniable.” I don’t know who would be denying it at this point, but Mays goes on to say that “Hollywood pioneers such as Will Smith, F. Gary Gray, Ice Cube, and John Singleton have already made profound contributions to the film industry.” In Hip Hop Weekly’s “Hollywood Issue,” interviews are featured with Hip Hop’s current silver screen representatives, including Tyrese and Big Boi. Another notable piece in this issue is “50 Must Have Hip Hop Films” (does Busy Bee’s Wild Style make the cut?) as well as a summer preview. Mays believes that it’s time to recognize Hip Hop’s powerful influence on the film Industry, and I’m inclined to agree. Check out Hip Hop Weekly for the categories and nominations for this year.
