The Ridley Scott directed American Gangster was a certified box open smash, grossing a shade under 50 million dollars in its opening weekend. The film tells the story of the legendary Harlem heroin dealer Frank Lucas, played by Denzel Washington, whose sophisticated drug operation during the Vietnam war earned him a reputation of being one of the most dangerous figures in the United States. While the film highlighted Lucas’ life up to his capture, and subsequent early release from prison, his real-life legacy as a kingpin of crime has been marred by controversy and shrouded in mystery.

Now Frank Lucas’ eldest son, rapper Frank Lucas, sits down with Drop to set the record straight about his father and separate the truth from the lies. Along the way, Lucas also touches on his ‘beef’ with Jay-Z, and explains why the world desperately needs to redefine the term ‘Gangster.’
