Working his way up from the Shreveport Projects, Famouz (FMZ), born Reggie Stephens, hasn’t had anything handed to him. Even in his pro football career he was a walk on, having to play his way onto the team each year. He is also separated from other athlete/artists in that he began rapping long before he went pro, even opening up a show for E-40 at the age of 15. His first album, Ghetto Passport, doesn’t have a promising title - but certainly a promising premise. Taking his life experience, Famouz writes about how he got from the ghetto to the Meadowlands, and everything in between. “The difference is that music is my passion and my football career just happened to come first..music is something that pumps through my blood daily; it keeps me alive.” Now that’s some real shit. I laughed when Ron Artest decided to “concentrate on his music,” but FMZ is the real deal and I’m looking forward to this one. Check out Ghetto Passport in late September.
