Michael Jackson and his partners at Sony/ATV Music Publishing bought stakes in Famous Music Publishing, the company that controls rights to Eminem’s songs. This is making news because, if you don’t recall, back in 2004 Eminem made a song and video called “Lose it” which featured some classic Michael Jackson jokes, including (but not limited to) having kids in the bed and a nose that just wont stay put! Michael went as far as to plead with BET to stop airing the video. In any case, it doesn’t seem that Michael will have any real control over Eminem’s music, as his production company 8 Mile must sign off on any commercial use.
The deal was reported to be worth $ 370 million, and now Jackson owns the rights to ‘Without Me’ and ‘The Real Slim Shady’. They also own the rights to songs by artists such as Shakira and movie soundtracks such as ‘The GodFather’ and ‘Mission Impossible’.
