August 22, 2007 - Kevin Liles, executive president of Warner Music Group, will be honored in his hometown of Baltimore, Maryland on September 1, with his own street. The street currently known as Presstman Street on the 2900 block will now be known as Kevin Liles Drive.
Liles’ rise to the top is a very interesting one. He started off in 1991, as an unpaid intern in the mail room of Def Jam. In 1998, at the age of 30, he was named the president of Def Jam Music Group. He has helped create many successful brands of Def Jam such as, Roc-A-Fella, Murder Inc and Def Jam South. In 2004 he left Def Jam to become the president of Warner Music Group.
Liles is also the CEO of the ‘Make It Happen Foundation’ and Kevin Liles for a Better Baltimore. In addition to the renaming of the street, Liles will also receive A Presidential Acknowledgment and begin to challenge other successful individuals to revitalize their streets through his ‘Adopt Your Block’ Initiative.
“Kevin’s dedication to building a better Baltimore has been proven through his constant contributions and charity work,” stated Mayor Sheila Dixon. “Kevin has been instrumental in shaping the lives of so many young people with his commitment to education and improving the quality of life for our residents. This ceremony will help congratulate all hi accomplishments and show our appreciation.”
