Tony Yayo, a member of G Unit, was busted last week on charges that he assaulted a 14 year old child, the son of Czar Entertainment owner Jimmy “Henchmen” Rosemond for wearing a company T Shirt. Czar entertainment represents a rival of G Unit, The Game.Parents and community leaders joined outside of the Broadway offices of Universal Records and began boycotting G Unit and their merchandise (you can watch the video on youtube). Al Sharpton stated, “All of us have children who listen to your music. Some of us listen ourselves. But we don’t want to feel like we’re investing in the demise of our community.” Sharpton said if the two sides do not work out their differences, he would urge people to stop buying their albums altogether.
However, this does not seem to be much of a threat as the game has just shattered all hopes for peace with a new song called “Body Bags.” Here are some lyrics from the song, provided by allhiphop.com: “What kind of bitch nigga put his hands on kids- Homo?/ Pull up that black van on hos/ We don’t do the kid slap/ we do the kid snatchin’/ Eye witness news “Its been a kid nappin’/ Feed ‘em real good/ Play with Harlem / Just wait, “Its ya daddy callin’/ Nah, we don’t get down like that, but 50’s mama, we’ll put you in the ground like that.” get down like that.
Missing from the Manhattan news conference was hip hop mogul Russel Simmons. According to organizers he stay away as to seem not be taking any sides. However, many protesters and participants made it clear that when it comes to violence against children that is where the line in the sand is drawn. Over this line - you do not cross. Brooklyn City Council Member Charles Barron stated, “You have to stop the beef, stop the madness, it’s out of control.”
