World Rap Championships

July 16, 2007 - The World Rap Championships (WRC) is gearing up for another year of lyrical sparring. The competition features a 2 on 2 rap battle format in which three hundred rappers from all across the globe go head to head in 8 divisions. The event takes place before a select industry crowd at secret warehouses and rooftop locations across eight city divisions: NY, LA, Detroit, ATL, Houston, Toronto, London and Melbourne. The competitors will participate in more then 500 battles (60 hours) over a 5 month period. Last year the show was broadcasted online and drew in over 200,000 viewers. This year is estimated to be over 1 million. “Rap battles are one of hip hops most exciting elements, yet mainstream shows like Wild N Out, Yo Mama and The White Rapper Show do nothing to contribute to the evolution of MC’ing. Genuine hip hop fans don’t want gimmicks, they want what’s real, so via the internet we can bypass the major networks and broadcast directly to a global audience,” said Harold Anthony, Format Co-Producer for WRC. You can check out the action starting August 19 on jumpoff.tv.
