September 12, 2007 - On Saturday night 50 cent and Tony Yayo put on a Pre-VMA concert at the Hard Rock Hotel with the helps of special guests Ludacris and Akon (even Floyd Mayweather came in for the “Outta Control” remix!) This concert took place on a stage built over a pool at the hotel. Most of the audience crowded around the pool and on the edges to watch.
Problems began when 50 performed “Window Shopper” and Mayweather “made it rain” twenties and hundreds. Some of this money fell into the pool, cuasing members of the audience to dive into the pool after it. 50 cent encouraged the behavior, telling people to “get in the pool.”
During “So Seductive” one woman wading in the pool began to pull on a light tower over the stage. 50 cent shows some sense when he warns a woman standing in the pool not to pull on the light tower over the stage. He puts two and two together telling the woman, “If you pull the lights down, you’ll electrocute yourself.”
Obviously mad with lust after 50’s “In The Club”, fans began pulling on the stage itself. Not built to handle this stress, the stage began to buckle and sink into the water. When the welfare of his crew and fans in the pool were threatened, 50 got serious and told the audience to back up and get out of the water. The fans weren’t listening, so 50 and Yayo left the stage, canceling the remainder of the show. With all the canceled shows and missed concerts in the news lately, its refreshing to see a concert shortened for legitimate reasons.
